New measures in Denmark to support appliance repairs with tax deductions
Thomas Bünger is pleased with the recent news that repairing household appliances such as refrigerators, ovens, or washing machines will become more financially viable. Under new measures linked to the upcoming budget, individuals will be able to deduct repair costs when paying for services like his, aimed at restoring appliances to working order.
Bünger believes this initiative is important, as many repairs often involve minor issues. While fixing a dishwasher in Greve, he noted that common problems typically involve broken heating elements or drainage pumps. In the current case, he is addressing a malfunctioning switch that prevents the customer from starting the machine.
However, he acknowledged that some repairs can be more complex and may require more time. He suspects that many potential customers hesitate to contact repair services due to concerns about costs. Bünger pointed out that discarded appliances often end up at recycling stations, where a simple fix could have extended their life. He emphasized the need for people to overcome their fears about calling for repairs.
According to analyses, approximately 500,000 appliances, including around 122,000 washing machines, are disposed of each year in Denmark.
Frank Mortensen, whose dishwasher is being repaired, believes it is worthwhile to fix rather than replace it. He expressed enthusiasm for the budget initiative, stating that with quality products they enjoy, consumers are willing to invest in repairs.
The new repair tax deduction falls under a broader service tax initiative, which now boasts a cap of 17,500 DKK, backed by an annual allocation of 100 million DKK to support these measures.
