The Central Criminal Police has announced that the patrol vessel Turva is en route to the location where the C-Lion-1 cable has been severed. This Finnish Border Guard ship is heading to the site of the cable break as part of an ongoing investigation by the Central Criminal Police. The C-Lion-1 submarine cable, owned by Cinia Oy and connecting Finland and Germany, was damaged early Monday morning just after 4 a.m. The break occurred approximately halfway between Sweden’s Öland Island and the eastern region.
To secure the investigation, the Central Criminal Police has requested assistance from the Border Guard to conduct a site examination. They are probing the damage to the submarine cable as a suspected severe case of vandalism and intentional disruption of telecommunications.
The Turva is being deployed to the incident site to utilize its capabilities in investigating the seabed. Central Criminal Police supervisor Risto Lohi mentioned that personnel would be present to gather information from the underwater examination results. Additionally, a data cable running between Sweden and Lithuania has also been reported damaged. In response to the incidents, Finland and Sweden have announced plans to establish a joint investigation team to delve into the cause of the damages.
