The Union Party in the Faroese Parliament has reached an agreement with the Danish government to secure 54 million Danish Krone as part of next year’s budget. A significant portion of these funds will be allocated to the police force in the Faroe Islands, the Faroese Court, research initiatives, and film production.

Five million Krone has been earmarked over a four-year period to create two positions within the police force—one for a communications officer and another for a data analyst. “The police in the Faroe Islands urgently require personnel with specialized knowledge in combating cybercrime, and this agreement prioritizes strengthening the police’s capabilities,” stated Anna Falkenberg, a member of the Union Party.

Additionally, one million Krone is designated for renovating the facility housing the government offices to create office spaces. The Faroese Court will also receive 400,000 Krone for video equipment upgrades.

In terms of maritime safety, the Search and Rescue vessel “Rescue Lív” will receive approximately two million Krone in the budget to ensure its operational sustainability for another 25 years.

Furthermore, research into foreign affairs, security, defense policies, and marine research surrounding the Faroe Islands and the North Atlantic will each receive eight million Krone.

The Union Party has collaborated with the Social Democratic Party and the Greenlandic party, Inuit Ataqatigiit, to secure 30 million Krone over three years for the Norddok film fund. The aim of Norddok is to support documentary films that highlight issues in the Faroe Islands, Greenland, or Denmark.
