Early this morning, authorities received reports of a Faroese individual who had strayed off the path between Tjørnuvík and Saksun. People from Eiði alerted the police after seeing lights in the mountain area.
Due to the treacherous icy conditions, sending search parties into the terrain was deemed unsafe. Consequently, the police requested a helicopter be deployed for the search operation.
However, before the helicopter took off, local firefighters notified the police that the situation had been resolved. With a powerful flashlight, they were able to assist the individual back onto the road safely.
The person has returned without incident, as confirmed by the police.
