A historic sanatorium in Kouvola is up for sale through an online auction, with the starting bid set at €2,000. The auction concluded on Monday, receiving only two bids, with the highest bid submitted just before the closing. The listing confirms that the bid has been accepted.

The sanatorium is located in the Sairaalanmäki area of Kuusankoski and is among the oldest protected structures in the region. Designed by architect Eino Forsman (1879–1958), known for other notable buildings such as the Sibelius Academy and Laakson tuberculosis hospital in Helsinki, the sanatorium was constructed in 1933.

Last year, ownership of the property was transferred to T&T Invest from Hamina, which subsequently placed the site for auction in the fall. Teijo Korpela, the company’s CEO, chose not to comment on the auction’s outcome at this time. Mikko Parikka, CEO of the intermediary company handling the auction, stated that the details related to the sale are still being negotiated between the buyer and seller, with formal agreements to be signed afterwards.

The sanatorium previously operated as a military hospital during World War II and housed a children’s psychiatric ward until the 2000s. It features a 900 square meter basement and above-ground floors totaling 2,700 square meters, with one tenant still occupying part of the basement. The property is reported to be in good condition.

Kouvola City retains ownership of the majority of the 19-hectare Sairaalanmäki area as it seeks to divest from its real estate holdings in this district.
