Janne Kataja hires security after threats from tabloid reporter in Finland

Actor and host Janne Kataja felt threatened by the behavior of a reporter from a tabloid, leading him to arrange for security services, which were covered by the publication’s parent company. In 2022, a staff reporter from the tabloid investigated Kataja and his business partner’s past real estate transactions and reached out to the latter.

Kataja later shared details about this contact on Instagram, prompting the reporter to accuse him of harassment and file a police report. However, authorities did not pursue the case, stating that Kataja’s response had been appropriate and respectful towards the reporter.

Subsequently, the reporter took to Facebook to post a comment about an unnamed “magician from Riihimäki,” leading to further backlash. Kataja, who also performs as a magician, expressed that the message was alarming, stating, “I hope you die. Karma will handle it when it comes.”

Frightened by the situation, Kataja contacted the management of the publication. Following this, a security guard began patrolling his home for a month and a half, with the company covering the expenses.

The incident has drawn little comment from former editorial staff, with one notably declining to discuss the matter, labeling it as an “old issue.” Interviews conducted with various public figures revealed a common thread: nearly all reported having been subjects of inaccuracies published by the tabloid over the years.
