Youth leaving Faroe Islands for education as statistics reveal only 20% plan to study locally

The trend of youth leaving the Faroe Islands for education is not new, but it has resurfaced recently with new statistics from Higher Education showing that only 20% of senior high school students plan to pursue further studies within the islands.

Previously, both the Statistics Office and the University of the Faroe Islands have indicated a similar trend.

Today, we speak with several young individuals who are preparing to study abroad. We ask them about their reasons for choosing other countries over the Faroe Islands and whether high schools are taking any steps to address this issue.
