Marius Borg Høiby arrested on multiple charges in Oslo, Norway
Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, faces serious legal troubles after being arrested following allegations of violent incidents. In the past 24 hours, authorities have charged him with two counts of rape, which he denies. A court in Oslo has ordered him to remain in custody for a week, accompanied by restrictions on communication and visitors.
The police have presented evidence they believe substantiates one of the rape allegations. Høiby has been held at the Grønland police station since his arrest on Monday. His attorney, Øyvind Bratlien, has criticized the decision, suggesting that the court should have imposed a longer detention but acknowledged that a one-week order is preferable to the two weeks initially requested by prosecutors.
Law enforcement has justified the arrest by citing concerns over potential evidence tampering. They are exploring additional allegations of assault, threats, and violations of restraining orders in connection with a woman involved in the case. Currently, there are six reported victims associated with the allegations against Høiby.
Bratlien maintains that the charges are the result of significant misunderstandings, emphasizing his client’s assertion of innocence. Separate from the broader allegations, a woman in her twenties has also come forward, stating she was assaulted earlier this year. Efforts are underway to investigate these claims thoroughly.
The situation has garnered significant media attention, causing distress for the alleged victims, especially due to concerns over privacy breaches. Public figures, including Crown Prince Haakon, have noted the gravity of the situation, highlighting the ongoing concern for everyone involved in the case.
