New information has emerged regarding the mysterious case of Geirfinnur Einarsson, whose disappearance 50 years ago from Keflavík remains unresolved. A new book detailing the case is set to be released, coinciding with the anniversary of his disappearance, which was first reported in a brief article in Morgunblaðið on November 22, 1974, sparking what would become Iceland’s most famous criminal investigation.

Geirfinnur Einarsson, a 32-year-old father of two, vanished without a trace, prompting police to connect his case to an unrelated crime involving the disappearance of Guðmundur Einarsson earlier that year. The intertwined investigations eventually led to six individuals being convicted of the murders; however, subsequent examinations revealed police misconduct, leading to a partial reopening of the cases in 2018.

Over the decades, the case has attracted extensive media coverage, including television series, films, and around 20 books. The latest publication, authored by Sigurður Björgvin Sigurðsson and Jón Ármann Steinsson, aims to shed new light on the investigation through witness testimonies omitted by the police.

The authors assert that crucial evidence was ignored, detailing a witness account of Geirfinnur’s death that had been disregarded for years. They emphasize the need for factual evidence rather than speculation surrounding the case and plan to present their findings to authorities, seeking accountability for what transpired that fateful night.

As the 50th anniversary approaches, advocates continue to call for justice and clarity for the families affected by the case, stressing the importance of relying on verified facts in pursuit of truth amidst lingering questions and theories.
