Controlant, an Icelandic technology company, has announced the layoff of 50 employees as part of its organizational restructuring. This decision follows a significant reduction in the company’s operations since the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In August, the company had previously laid off 150 individuals across its offices in five different countries. Controlant expanded rapidly during the pandemic, playing a vital role in the distribution of vaccines by developing sensors that monitored the condition and temperature of vaccines during transportation.
Recently, the firm secured $35 million in funding, and today’s layoffs, along with planned structural changes, are intended to support the company’s future efforts towards sustainable growth. Presently, Controlant employs 230 people across its offices in Iceland, Denmark, the Netherlands, Poland, and the United States.
Part of the new organizational framework includes the appointment of two CEOs. Alongside Gísli Herjólfsson, the company’s co-founder and current CEO, Trausti Þórmundsson has also been brought on board as CEO.
Controlant’s ongoing adjustments reflect the need for a simplified organizational structure and shifted focus in response to the evolving market landscape.
