An adult man who served as a mentor at a confirmation camp in Hamina faces accusations of two counts of sexual harassment, as confirmed by local prosecutor Hannele Aho. The charges were filed last week, according to Aho.
The alleged incidents took place during the confirmation camp organized by the Hamina parish in early summer. Following the allegations, the individual was removed from the camp, which proceeded to conclude as planned.
The parish priest of Hamina, Anna Kinnunen, mentioned in July that the church was unaware of the man’s age until the police investigation began. Mentors, known locally as “isosen,” typically serve as facilitators for the camp and usually have attended a confirmation camp themselves in the previous summer. They are typically one or two years older than the confirmation students.
Initial reports about the charges appeared in Ilta-Sanomat.
