Svein í Heiðunum recently received recognition as the Travel Industry Person of the Year 2024 during a tourism conference earlier this month. With nearly three decades in the tourism sector, he expresses his genuine passion for the field.

“I find immense joy in solving challenging problems and ensuring our visitors leave happy and satisfied. When that happens, everything feels right,” Svein shares.

For the past 20 years, he has been with Smyril Line, currently serving as the head of service and quality. The role can be demanding at times. “I often dedicate a lot of time to my work. For instance, I haven’t truly had a summer vacation this year, but I don’t dwell on that. I’m often called upon for specific tasks, especially when they involve complex or serious challenges, which I really enjoy,” he notes, while also acknowledging the necessity of taking time off occasionally.

He also ensures he has time to recharge, citing the support of his capable team and his desire to share his knowledge and experiences as reasons for his commitment to the industry.

In a recent morning broadcast, Svein delved into his career in tourism, the current landscape in the Faroe Islands, and his thoughts on future prospects for the industry.
