On December 1st, the Health Authority of the Faroe Islands will conduct an evaluation regarding the general screen use guidelines established in 2021.

The screen usage habits of children and young people in the Faroes have not yet been examined. However, the Health Authority believes that such a study is necessary.

The Minister of Education supports this initiative and plans to collaborate with the Health Authority to instigate the research.

This information comes from Djóni Nolsøe Joensen, the Minister of Education, in response to inquiries from a member of parliament, Bárður á Lakjuni.

Numerous studies on screen usage have been conducted abroad, but experts remain divided on the effects of screen time on children and adolescents, as noted in Joensen’s response.

He emphasized the importance of the digital aspect as the curricula for primary and secondary education are currently under review.
