Levi Mørk withdraws from mayoral position in Vágur as coalition talks collapse
Levi Mørk will not assume the role of mayor for the municipality of Vágur as previously anticipated. Earlier today, Mørk confirmed that a final agreement between the Social Democratic Party and the Union Party was expected to be signed at a meeting this evening. However, during the meeting, Bjarni Johansen from the Social Democratic Party announced that he would not sign the agreement.
Later in the evening, Arni D. Brattaberg, the leading candidate from the Republican Party, which emerged as the largest party, called the newly elected city council to a meeting tomorrow at 10:00 AM. The agenda includes the organization of the Vágur City Council for the terms 2025-2028.
Attempts to gather comments from either Bjarni Johansen or Arni D. Brattaberg were unsuccessful. It is believed that Johansen will continue his tenure as mayor after previously campaigning with List E.
Levi Mørk expressed his disappointment over the turn of events, stating that just three days ago, there was agreement to form a coalition between the Social Democratic Party and the Union Party, but that arrangement has clearly unraveled. He noted that he has consistently received full support from the Union Party but mentioned a lack of support from his own party.
Mørk emerged as the top vote-getter in the municipal election in Vágur with 131 personal votes, while Johansen followed closely with 108 votes on the Social Democratic ticket. The election results allocated four council seats to the Republican Party, three to the Social Democratic Party, and two to the Union Party, leaving the Republican Party just one seat short of a majority—a situation they have now resolved with Johansen’s inclusion.
