Bernt Marius Rørstad, now 27, reflects on his past self with a sense of disbelief. Sitting in his childhood home in Volda, he acknowledges the transformation that has occurred in his life since a life-altering accident. Recently, he participated in a conference where he shared insights about this pivotal experience.

In the documentary titled “Momentum,” audiences across Norway are provided a glimpse into Rørstad’s physical and mental struggles following a harrowing incident. The film captures the moment when, at just 21 years old, he attempted a speedriding jump from the Hoven mountain. Despite favorable conditions, disaster struck during his fourth descent, leading to a serious crash that left him with shattered ankles and a life turned upside down.

Rørstad returned to the skies less than six months after the accident, countering public perception that he was reckless or seeking danger. He stated, “I am afraid of dying, so I strive hard to avoid it.” As an extreme sports enthusiast, he often feels misunderstood, especially when others suggest he should give up what he loves.

After initiating a ski film project, Rørstad soon realized his story was more profound, leading to an in-depth documentary about his journey. The title “Momentum” reflects his approach to life post-accident, focusing on building experiences and activities to cope with his feelings.

“Momentum” premiered on November 13 in Sogndal, and while Rørstad is anxious about sharing his most private moments, he acknowledges that his openness has helped him grow. He believes that, despite the challenges, the lessons learned from his accident are invaluable. He expresses no desire to rewind time; instead, he embraces the growth that came from his journey. The film is set to screen in various cities, inviting audiences to witness his remarkable resilience.
