In a tragic incident at an egg-laying facility, approximately six thousand birds perished due to a fire that broke out overnight. The facility’s director expressed deep sorrow over the incident, particularly highlighting the loss of live animals as especially heartbreaking, while also noting gratitude for the local firefighters who managed to prevent further devastation.

The fire ignited in the roof of one barn, with emergency responders arriving on the scene around midnight. They reported that the barn was rendered unusable, but their efforts successfully contained the blaze, sparing adjacent buildings from damage.

No danger was posed to the public by the fire; however, the toll on the birds was significant, with thousands affected by flames and smoke. The director acknowledged the grief associated with such events, stating, “It’s truly unfortunate when something like this happens, especially as it involves living creatures.”

He expressed his thanks to the firefighting team for their quick response and effective action, which prevented the fire from spreading further.

Currently, estimates suggest that a similar facility could cost around 150 million krónur, but the exact financial loss remains unclear as authorities investigate the cause of the fire. The director suspects that the fire may have originated from the building’s ventilation system, leading to flames emerging from the fans, an event he insists should not normally occur but is aware that unforeseen incidents can happen.

This unfortunate event serves as a reminder of the vulnerabilities that can affect agricultural operations, particularly those involving livestock. The investigation continues as the community grapples with the loss.
