Two drivers fined for license violations in Vágur and Tórshavn

In two separate incidents last night, drivers were stopped for not possessing a valid driver’s license. The first driver was apprehended in Vágur just before midnight, while the second was caught around 3 AM in Tórshavn.

Each driver faces a fine of 5,000 kroner. The penalty for driving without a license increases with subsequent offenses: the first violation incurs a fine of 5,000 kroner, the second raises it to 6,000 kroner, the third to 7,500 kroner, the fourth to 10,000 kroner, and the fifth results in imprisonment.

These fines apply specifically to those driving without a valid license. If an individual has lost their license but continues to drive during a probationary period, the first offense leads to a fine equivalent to one month’s salary. A second offense incurs a penalty of 10 days in jail.

At around 10 PM last night, another driver was stopped in Tórshavn and is now facing charges for driving under the influence of drugs.

Throughout the night and into the morning, two additional drivers were also caught in the capital for driving while intoxicated.

Despite the increased activity in Tórshavn, overall safety remained intact, according to law enforcement. Police also conducted checks at local pubs in Tórshavn and Klaksvík but reported no significant issues.
