Wage growth shows women outperforming men in Sweden

Recent data indicates a notable shift in wage growth dynamics, with women experiencing a larger increase than men over the past year. From November of last year to October of this year, women’s salary growth outpaced that of men, with women seeing an approximate ten percent rise in earnings, compared to around four percent for men.

Overall, the total growth in wage payments amounted to 711 million kr. Women accounted for over 60 percent of this increase, translating to around 440 million kr. Despite this progress, a significant pay gap persists, as women’s average earnings remain roughly one-third lower than their male counterparts.

In terms of monthly earnings, the average wage for both genders combined reached 35,673 kr in October. Over the past year, total wage payments have reached 12.6 billion kr, reflecting an increase of six percent.

This data highlights both advancements and ongoing challenges in achieving wage equality, underscoring the importance of continued efforts towards closing the gender pay gap in the labor market.
