Finns Party announces Joakim Vigelius as candidate for mayor of Tampere
The Finns Party has announced that Joakim Vigelius will be their candidate for the mayoral position in Tampere. Vigelius is a 27-year-old first-term MP who secured his place in the Tampere City Council during the last municipal elections. The Finns Party is the first to officially name their candidate for the mayoral race in Tampere, while other parties are still finalizing their selections.
The mayorship will go to the party that wins the upcoming municipal elections, traditionally held by either the National Coalition Party or the Social Democratic Party. The Green League and the Social Democrats have already released candidate names, with the Greens set to finalize their selection in December. The Social Democrats are expected to announce their candidate by the end of this month, with MP Ilmari Nurminen indicating interest in the role.
Municipal elections are scheduled for March of next year. The current mayor of Tampere, Kalervo Kummola from the National Coalition Party, has not yet disclosed whether he intends to seek re-election.
