An investigation has progressed following an incident at a central school in Kotka. On November 6, a student allegedly attempted to assault others with a sharp object during a lesson. Authorities are treating the event as a case of attempted aggravated assault.
Preliminary findings indicate that the student targeted teachers with a knife while classes were in session. During the inquiry, individuals involved were questioned and provided consistent accounts of the incident, according to the head of the investigation.
The school serves approximately 340 students from sixth to ninth grade. The suspect, who is under 15 years old, was promptly located by police within school premises. The confrontation lasted only a short time, and the minor voluntarily surrendered the knife.
The motive behind the student’s actions remains unclear, although there have been no indications of premeditation during the initial investigation. The student reportedly obtained the knife from the school itself and has acknowledged a wrongdoing in discussions with authorities.
Due to the suspect’s age, no criminal charges will be pursued, and the case will not be forwarded to a prosecutor. However, the student may have civil liability for any damages that may arise.
Further updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
