Members of the local council in Kvívík represent various areas, including leyri, Stykkið, Válin, and also include a member from Skæling. This diversity reflects a wider representation of the community.
There are 19 candidates running on two lists in Kvívík, marking an increase from the previous election when only 16 candidates participated. Interest in the election appears to be significant, particularly noted during a recent visit by Tórður Mikkelsen to the polling station.
Randi Jacobsen, chairwoman of the electoral committee in Kvívík, expressed satisfaction with the large selection of candidates but could not determine whether dissatisfaction with current politicians or a desire for broader choices among the electorate drives this enthusiasm. Notably, voter turnout today is higher than it was during the same period in the last election cycle.
The community’s engagement in the political process is strong, with several campaign events held in the village. These gatherings provide the candidates and residents an opportunity to discuss their views and concerns.
Jacobsen noted that a common wish emerging from discussions among the public and candidates is for a multi-purpose hall, which seems to be a unanimous desire. However, there remains considerable debate regarding the future of Glæman; while all agree on the need for a gathering place, opinions differ on whether it should be within the existing structure of Glæman or the construction of a new hall, illustrating a significant point of contention within the community.
