Severe weather leads to yellow warnings across regions of Iceland
Severe weather conditions have been reported in the Siglufjörður area, with wind gusts reaching up to 43 meters per second last night on the Siglufjarðarveg road. Yellow weather warnings for strong southerly winds or storms are in effect across various regions of Iceland until Thursday.
The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration has issued alerts for high winds specifically affecting the Siglufjarðarveg road in the Fljót region of Northeast Iceland. A section of the road, approximately 50 meters in length, has been reported to have its surface covering blown away due to the severe winds.
Additionally, warnings also extend to the Strandir and Northeastern areas, where wind gusts may reach as high as 35 meters per second. These alerts are set to remain active until Thursday, affecting multiple regions including Breiðafjörður, the Westfjords, Eastern Iceland up to Gletting, Southeast Iceland, and the Central Highlands.
Initial warnings will cease early tomorrow in Breiðafjörður and the Westfjords, but they will continue to be in place across the other mentioned areas until the end of the warning period on Thursday. The weather is expected to bring considerable challenges to residents and travelers alike, urging caution during this time.
