In a recent poll conducted by Maskína regarding support for parties running in the 2024 Icelandic parliamentary elections, the political party Viðreisn has seen a significant increase in backing. The party is now tied for the largest in support alongside Samfylkingin, gaining three percentage points to reach over 19%. In contrast, both Samfylkingin and Miðflokkurinn experienced a slight decline, each losing one percentage point, with Samfylkingin currently at 21%.
The Miðflokkurinn’s support dropped from 16% to 15%, while Sjálfstæðisflokkurinn decreased from 14% to just above 13%. These changes demonstrate minor fluctuations without significant difference in the standings of these parties. Other parties show marginal changes; Framsókn stands just over 7%, Flokkur fólksins at 9%, and Píratar around 5%.
The Sósíalistaflokkurinn is on the verge of not qualifying for a seat, holding 4.5% support, while Píratar also teeter near this threshold. The left-wing party VG reports a slight decline, now at just over 3%, and Lýðræðisflokkurinn sits at 1.7%.
With their current support, Viðreisn and Samfylkingin would need only one additional seat each to achieve a majority in parliament. Without considering equalizing seats, Samfylkingin would secure 16 seats, Viðreisn 15, while Miðflokkurinn would have 11. Sjálfstæðisflokkurinn would receive 10, Flokkur fólksins 6, and Framsókn 5. The potential exists for parties with under 5% support to gain seats due to equalizing mechanisms.
The survey, conducted from November 1-6, included responses from 1,407 individuals selected from a representative national database.
