In Spalding, England, representatives from the labor union of Bakkavör’s factory have sought to engage the company’s shareholders, Ágúst and Lýður Guðmundsson, in an ongoing wage dispute. The union is advocating for wage increases above the legal minimum to address the dissatisfaction over current compensation.

Since late September, over a third of the factory’s workforce has been on strike. Bakkavör asserts that they have proposed a wage increase exceeding inflation, with nearly an eight percent rise for the lowest earners. The company operates 20 factories in the UK and a total of 43 plants worldwide, employing around 18,000 workers.

Union organizer Sam Luczynski highlighted that Bakkavör is a financially robust company, having distributed substantial dividends to its shareholders over the past two years. He argued that employees deserve a fair share of the profits they have helped generate.

Meanwhile, public sentiment is building in support of the striking workers, reflecting a broader trend of labor activism and calls for fair compensation in various sectors across the globe.
