The Vaasa Court of Appeal has increased the sentence of a man in his late thirties who was convicted of raping an adult woman and a child who had run away from their foster home. The Satakunta District Court had previously convicted the man of rape and aggravated child rape. The Court of Appeal found that the rape committed against the adult victim was also aggravated.

According to the judgment, the man picked up an intoxicated woman in Pori, a city in Finland. The woman lost consciousness in the car, and the man sexually assaulted her and recorded his actions. The rape caused the victim to suffer significant mental distress, as characterized by the criteria for aggravated rape, according to the court’s judgment.

The District Court had sentenced the 38-year-old man to just over seven years in prison. The Court of Appeal sentenced him to eight years and four months imprisonment. The sentence was handed down on May 31 and is not yet legally binding.
