A mural on the wall of Guðsteinn Eyjólfsson’s store on Laugavegur is set to be painted over for maintenance. The manager of AFF Concept Store, which moved into the building, has assured that all necessary measures have been taken to restore the wall to its original state.

Residents and passersby in downtown Reykjavik were surprised to see work beginning on painting over the mural on the building that once housed Guðsteinn Eyjólfsson’s store on Laugavegur. The mural has been a local landmark for years but is being painted over due to regular maintenance. Guðsteinn’s store moved out of the downtown area in March, having been a continuous presence on Laugavegur since 1929. The owner of the store that moved into Guðsteinn’s premises has said the mural will be reinstalled.

Sigríður Jónsdóttir, the owner of the AFF Concept Store, stated that the building requires maintenance. “We just need to paint the wall and make it beautiful. But we have taken all necessary measures so that it can be returned to its original form,” she said.
