Dental nurse caught accessing personal data without authorization in Helsinki
A dental nurse who worked in the Helsinki city dental care system has been caught accessing personal and health information without authorization, as reported by the city of Helsinki. The data breach was uncovered at the end of October when another employee requested their personal log data, revealing who had accessed their information within the customer and patient data systems. Following this, the city conducted a broader investigation into the breach.
It was discovered that the dental nurse had unlawfully viewed the data of other individuals as well. Current estimates indicate that the breach affects at least 100 people. The dental nurse is no longer employed by the city.
The city is currently reviewing customer and patient data related to dental care. According to officials, actions were initiated regarding the dental nurse in accordance with the city’s data breach policy. Additionally, the city has requested an investigation by the police and has reported the incident to the Data Protection Ombudsman’s office. The Helsinki dental service plans to inform those affected by the data breach personally.
