Local elections in Hovs feature higher female representation as candidates prepare for November 12 vote

A total of 337 men and 219 women are standing for election in the local elections on November 12, yielding a distribution of 61% men and 39% women. Only one municipality, Hovs, features more women than men on its candidate list, with five women and three men running.

In five municipalities, gender equality among the candidates is achieved when considering the lists collectively, rather than individually. These municipalities are Vága, Sunda, Skopunar, Skálavíkar, and Porkeris.

Conversely, Vestmanna municipality shows the least representation of women, with only two women among eleven candidates, translating to just 18%. Similarly, in Fugloy and Skúvoy municipalities, women constitute 20% of the candidates, with only four men and one woman running in each of these small communities.
