The West Uusimaa District Court has issued a ruling in a case involving a man born in 2000 who attempted various robberies, with limited success, in 2022 in Kirkkonummi. The man, in collaboration with another individual, stole alcoholic beverages and food items from a local grocery store in June 2023. After fleeing the scene, they were pursued by a store employee.

According to the court, the man brandished a machete, threatening to kill the pursuing employee before chasing after him with the weapon. However, he eventually ceased the pursuit, and both men left the area. The incident was captured on surveillance cameras.

In late April 2023, the same individual committed an attempted robbery and assault in Kirkkonummi. He punched a bystander who was smoking outside an apartment building and then asked the victim if he had any money. The assaulted individual had no money, so the robbery remained an attempt. The defendant claimed in court that he had no intention of robbing the bystander and that asking for money was merely a statement made after the assault. He asserted that he struck the bystander without any specific intention.

The court, however, classified the act as an attempted robbery. Later that year, in the autumn, the man unlawfully entered an unlocked vehicle to search for items to steal. Finding nothing of value, he damaged the car’s radio faceplate and the driver’s sun visor before leaving the scene.

The court convicted the man of robbery, attempted robbery, and attempted theft. At the time of these crimes, he was serving a suspended sentence, resulting in an overall sentence of two years in prison. The machete was ordered to be confiscated by the state.
