An unusually extensive drug trial began today at the North Savo District Court in Finland, involving a total of 20 defendants. The charges pertain to the sale of marijuana, amphetamines, and cocaine. On the first day of the proceedings, charges were read against four men, whose alleged offenses took place in the cities of Varkaus and Kuopio between 2021 and 2023.

The prosecutor is seeking a fine for one of the defendants, while prison sentences are being pursued for the others. The harshest penalty is being sought for a man found in possession of amphetamines, marijuana, and cocaine. The prosecutor is demanding a one-year and ten-month suspended prison sentence for this defendant due to serious drug offenses.

Some of the defendants acknowledged their alleged crimes during Tuesday’s hearings. The investigation has utilized communications between the suspects via messaging applications such as Wickr Me, WhatsApp, and ProtonMail. These messages included discussions related to drug transportation.

A total of 17 hearing days have been reserved for this case at the district court, with the final session scheduled for December. According to the prosecutor, the intention is to proceed from lighter charges to more serious ones as the trial unfolds.
