On Friday, two high-voltage pylons collapsed in Eurajoki, attributed in part to weakened structures due to brace corrosion, according to Fingrid. The company is now investigating whether similar issues exist in the area more broadly.
On the same day, severe winds reached historically high levels in the western maritime regions of Finland. In Kylmäpihlaja near Rauma, wind speeds peaked at 33.5 meters per second on Friday evening, while Tahkoluoto in Pori recorded winds of 30.3 meters per second.
The damage was particularly severe in Eurajoki, Rauma, and Luvia.
