Hansen appointed as coadjutor bishop for Oslo Catholic Diocese in Norway
Hansen is an associate professor and dean at St. Mary’s Catholic University in Baltimore, USA, but he is now returning home to take on the role of coadjutor bishop, according to the Catholic Church. Hansen was delivering a lecture when he received the call about his new appointment. He initially planned to continue his teaching career abroad.
“The plan was for it to remain as such. However, the Pope makes these kinds of decisions, and we must respect that,” Hansen stated. He expressed his hope and belief that his work will be characterized by clearly proclaiming the Catholic faith and making its teachings widely known.
In his new position, Hansen will assist Bishop Eidsvig (71) in serving the Oslo Catholic Diocese until Eidsvig resigns. The bishop has taken medical leave at various times recently.
“I am very pleased with this appointment. It is a good and wise choice,” Bishop Eidsvig remarked regarding Hansen’s new role.
