Swedish unions demand wage increase ahead of contract negotiations

Swedish industrial unions are demanding a 4.2 percent wage increase in a proposed one-year agreement. This request, made by five unions—IF Metall, Unionen, Sveriges Ingenjörer, GS, and Livs—comes ahead of the major contract negotiations planned for this winter, with an aim to conclude by March 31.

The unions argue that their demands are grounded in the strengthened competitiveness of the Swedish industry on the international stage, which has been demonstrated through improved productivity and increased market shares.

If accepted, the new wages would take effect on April 1.
