Hansen returns to Oslo as co-adjutor bishop from Baltimore
Hansen is a college lecturer and dean at St. Mary’s Catholic University in Baltimore, USA, but he is returning home to take up the position of co-adjutor bishop. He received the news while giving a lecture and had initially planned to continue his teaching and remain abroad.
“The plan was to keep going. But the Pope makes these decisions, and we have to accept that,” Hansen stated. He expressed his hope that his efforts will be characterized by a clear proclamation of Catholic doctrine and a commitment to making it widely known.
In his new role, Hansen will assist Bishop Eidsvig, who is 71, in serving the Oslo Catholic Diocese until Eidsvig steps down. The bishop has been on sick leave intermittently in recent months.
“I am very pleased with this appointment. It is a wise and good choice,” Bishop Eidsvig remarked.
