The royal palace has confirmed that they were notified by the police and subsequently informed the crown princely couple about a potential arrest of Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit. Reports indicate that Høiby was informed about his mother’s arrest prior to the event.

According to the Norwegian Police Security Service (PST), they were informed about an incident involving Høiby on the night of August 4. The PST then routinely notified the royal court about the situation for security reasons. However, they did not provide specific information regarding the possibility of an arrest.

Both the Oslo police and the Police Directorate have stated that they did not alert the palace. The Oslo police clarified that only the PST’s security detail and the situation center were notified.

On August 4, Høiby was arrested at 4:10 PM, with the police seizing his mobile phone, which reportedly lacked a SIM card and was partially damaged. Police records indicate a series of events leading up to the arrest, including initial reports of violence and subsequent decision-making about the apprehension.

During the hours leading up to Høiby’s arrest, several police units and three government departments were informed. The Police Directorate was notified at 1 PM, over three hours before the arrest took place. The justice and emergency preparedness department was also informed, which led to further notification of the Prime Minister’s office and the Ministry of Children and Families.

Høiby faces multiple charges, including assault, threats, and violations of a restraining order against two former partners.
