In the municipality of Vestmanna, 57.1% of residents are in favor of merging with the neighboring municipality of Kvívík, according to a survey conducted by Kringvarpið. The survey also indicates that only 30.7% of Kvívík residents support a merger with Vestmanna.
Support for a merger is significantly higher in Vestmanna than in Kvívík, Lítla, and Stykkið. This trend is not surprising, as residents of Vestmanna have previously shown a willingness to unite with Kvívík. For instance, during the 2008 parliamentary elections, a non-binding referendum indicated substantial support for merging, with 722 voters in favor compared to just 59 against.
On the other hand, Kvívík residents have shown less enthusiasm for a merger with Vestmanna. In 2011, Kvívík Municipality sought to join Tórshavnar Municipality, but this plan did not materialize. The recent survey suggests that Kvívík residents are now more inclined to merge with Vestmanna rather than with Tórshavn.
In the survey, participants were given the option to choose up to four municipalities with which they would consider merging or to indicate if they opposed any mergers.
Results from Kvívík Municipality were as follows:
– Vestmanna Municipality: 30.7%
– Tórshavnar Municipality: 18.7%

– Sunda Municipality: 8.4%
– Other solutions: 5.7%
– Opposed to any merger: 26.2%
– Uncertain: 20.6%
