In a dramatic midday intervention, police in Reykjavík subdued a woman armed with a knife in Sólheimar. The woman, reportedly in a state of unrest, was accompanied by her young child, leading authorities to fear for both their safety.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene after receiving a report of the woman’s disturbing behavior outside a residence on the street. With a knife in hand, there were serious concerns that she might harm herself or her child. As part of the response, negotiators from the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police were called in.
After considerable negotiations, the police succeeded in disarming the woman without any injuries reported during the operation. Following the incident, the woman was taken under medical care, and the child was placed in the custody of child protection authorities.
Traffic in the Sólheima area was temporarily restricted while police handled the situation, but the restrictions were lifted shortly after the incident was resolved. Authorities have stated that it is not yet appropriate to provide further comments regarding the circumstances. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
