Woman sentenced next week for abducting baby in Huittinen, Finland
A woman who abducted a seven-day-old baby last September is scheduled to receive her sentence next week. The Satakunta District Court continued the trial on Monday. The accused faces charges for serious deprivation of liberty, as well as aggravated assault. During the court proceedings, it was revealed that the defendant was found sane at the time of the crime. A psychological evaluation was completed in July, but the court could only address the case now due to scheduling conflicts.
The prosecutor is seeking a prison sentence of over three years and has requested that the woman be detained immediately. The defendant was not present in court today.
The baby abduction incident occurred when two previously unknown women met during a shared outdoor walk in the center of Huittinen. The accused had suggested the outing to the victim through a social media group, falsely claiming she had recently given birth herself. She carried a baby carrier containing a doll. During the walk, the woman assaulted the victim by hitting her on the head with a hammer.
The accused managed to transport the baby by bus all the way to Helsinki before being apprehended.
