Two youths suspected of brutal assault on minor in Masku, Varsinais-Suomi
Two youths, aged 16 and 17, suspected of a brutal assault on a minor in Masku, Varsinais-Suomi, have prior criminal records. The latest incident took place on Friday, October 25, in a private residence, where both suspects allegedly assaulted a defenseless victim for an extended period. While the victim suffered serious injuries, they are no longer in critical condition. The police reported that several local youths were aware of the assault but did not inform authorities.
The Varsinais-Suomi welfare region has made counseling available for young individuals through its social and crisis hotline.
The 17-year-old involved in the assault has a conviction for a previous incident that occurred in July 2023, involving another assault. Additionally, in May of the same year, he faced charges for violently resisting a police officer. According to court records, he punched an unknown youth in the face, knocked him down, and continued to hit him on the face and neck. The 17-year-old admitted to the crime.
The confrontation with the police stemmed from a situation involving his friend, who had been injured in a moped accident. When law enforcement arrived to investigate, the 17-year-old displayed aggressive behavior, leading to his arrest. He reportedly struggled violently during the arrest, even kicking an officer in the head. Following his detention, he maintained his aggressive conduct.
The court sentenced him to a fine of 100 daily units, totaling 600 euros, along with compensation and legal costs amounting to approximately 4,600 euros.
The 16-year-old has also faced legal troubles, having been caught shoplifting perfumes in Turku earlier this year. In February, he stole two men’s fragrances worth around 200 euros from Sokos Wiklund, which he admitted to in court. He was sentenced to 15 daily fines, amounting to 90 euros.
