According to the Finnish Family Barometer by Väestöliitto, young women exhibit a wider range of sexual attractions compared to men, often being attracted to both genders. Overall, women experience sexual desire less frequently than men, with the greatest disparity observed in the 30-39 age group. On average, Finns have sexual encounters slightly less than once a week, with sexual activity declining as individuals age and relationships lengthen.

The survey revealed that approximately 20% of men and 10% of women in committed relationships have been unfaithful, with the likelihood of infidelity increasing with the duration of the relationship. Tiia Sorsa, a researcher at Väestöliitto, emphasizes the significant differences in sexual desire between genders, stating that men in their sixties desire sex more frequently than any female age group. While men generally crave sex more often, women frequently express interest in multiple genders.

The study, which surveyed 5,239 Finns aged 18 to 79, indicates that women tend to report desiring sexual experiences predominantly with men. Most women state that their sexual attraction is primarily toward men; however, for individuals under 35, this attraction becomes notably more diverse. Younger women’s interests are especially varied, with half reporting desires beyond just men.

The survey suggests that societal liberalization may contribute to the increasing diversity of sexual desires among younger generations, allowing for greater self-exploration. While many experience busy lifestyles, a majority claim satisfaction with their level of sexual desire, and many people living without a partner also express contentment with their situations. Overall, the study highlights how relationship status and length significantly influence sexual frequency and fidelity.
