The Minister of Finance and the Acting Minister of Infrastructure, Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson, expresses optimism about securing funding for key projects in next year’s transportation plan. He believes there is a consensus among parliament members, regardless of party affiliation, on the importance of completing the budget process and ensuring necessary authorizations from Parliament for various systems to function smoothly from January 1. This includes permitting the Road Administration to tender projects for the upcoming year.

The financial plan allocates approximately 1.6 billion krónur to the Port Grant Fund for construction and repair, around 4.7 billion for airport operations and air navigation, and 45 billion krónur to the Road Administration, with over 27 billion earmarked for road construction. Sigurður Ingi emphasizes the importance of ensuring that the budgetary grants are specifically allocated to crucial projects, especially regarding the Port Grant Fund and infrastructure.

He notes that the current proposal focuses on a one-year timeframe, implying that a new government and parliament will eventually oversee the comprehensive transportation plan.
