Denmark introduces new 20-kroner coin featuring King Frederik X and Queen Margrethe II

A new 20-kroner coin has been introduced in Denmark, as the National Bank officially released it today. This coin, known as the “throne transition coin,” features King Frederik X on one side and Queen Margrethe II on the other. The portraits were created by sculptor Eva Hjorth.

The outer edge of the side depicting the king features his motto: “Connected, Committed, for the Kingdom of Denmark.” Additionally, the edge notes “Margrethe II – Queen of Denmark,” while the inner ring indicates the queen’s reign, spanning from January 14, 1972, to January 14, 2024.

In 2025, more coins featuring King Frederik will be circulated. A video from Rødovre Centrum shows how shoppers welcomed the new coin.
