A fire broke out in a snow removal vehicle on Þverárfjallsvegur around 3 PM this afternoon. The road is currently closed as emergency services work to extinguish the fire and conduct an investigation at the scene. It is unclear when the road will reopen.
Pétur Björnsson, a chief police officer with the Northwestern Police, confirmed that there have been no injuries reported from the incident. While the operations are ongoing, traffic is being diverted through Vatnsskarð.
