Authorities in Tampere are investigating a fire that broke out in Juhannuskylä on Wednesday evening, with suspicions that it may have been intentionally set. The fire occurred in the basement of a two-story apartment building located on Polvikatu, leading to the evacuation of 12 residents.

“We are treating the fire as an act of arson,” stated Lassi Suoranta, the lead investigator and a crime commissioner. However, he did not disclose whether any suspects have been identified.

The Pirkanmaa rescue department received an alert about the medium-sized fire at approximately 9:30 PM. The blaze was confined to the basement, while the upper floors suffered smoke damage. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the residents during the incident.

Suoranta has appealed to the public for any tips, encouraging individuals to reach out via email at [email protected]. The incident was first reported by Aamulehti.
