Thousands of wind turbines are planned along Sweden’s coast, but several projects are located in parts of the Baltic Sea where the Armed Forces believe the turbines could interfere with Sweden’s defense capabilities. Lieutenant General Carl-Johan Edström has stated that the wind farms might negatively impact surveillance systems and delay the detection of threats. A report from the Defense Ministry indicates that “there are no conditions to establish wind power” in vast areas of the Baltic Sea. The government is now set to conduct a “comprehensive assessment” of the situation.
