Two individuals have been charged in connection with an incident that occurred in Kärsämäki last May. According to the prosecution, a man born in 1973 from Oulu attempted to murder two police officers in the parking area of a hotel on May 16. He faces charges of two counts of attempted murder, as well as serious drug offenses and firearms violations. Accompanying him during the incident was an Oulu woman born in 1996, who has been charged with violently resisting an officer and serious drug offenses.

The prosecution’s statement reports that the pair have mostly denied the charges during the preliminary investigation. The case will proceed to the Oulu District Court next month.

Previously, police and prosecutors disclosed that the serious escalation of events in the hotel parking lot stemmed from a routine inspection task. Police approached a vehicle in which the two suspects were sitting. However, the situation turned threatening when the armed man inside the vehicle did not comply with orders or relinquish his weapon. One of the present officers fired a shot at the man, hitting him in the leg. He was subsequently transported to the hospital.
