Faroe Islanders can now obtain the new weight-loss medication Mounjaro at local pharmacies.

Mounjaro operates similarly to Ozempic and Wegovy but features two active ingredients that influence two hormone-like substances in the body, which in turn affect appetite and blood sugar levels, according to Hjalti Gunnarstein, the national pharmacist.

The onset of weight loss with Mounjaro is reportedly quicker. This medication is comparable to both Ozempic and Wegovy, and the pharmaceutical company producing Mounjaro is competing for the same consumer base as Novo Nordisk.

It is up to doctors to decide whether to prescribe this medication to patients, advises the national pharmacist.
