Faroe Islands and Greenland closer to full membership in Nordic Council

The Faroe Islands and Greenland have never been as close to becoming full members of the Nordic Council as they are now, according to Johan Dahl, one of the Faroese representatives in the council.

Dahl has also participated in a working group focused on updating the Helsinki Agreement. The latest development in this matter is that Mette Frederiksen, the Danish Prime Minister, sent a letter yesterday to the other Nordic heads of government expressing Denmark’s support for the aspiration of both the Faroe Islands and Greenland to attain full membership in the Nordic Council.

The announcement comes amid ongoing discussions among the Nordic countries regarding their collaboration and representation structures. The potential full membership for the Faroe Islands and Greenland marks a significant step forward in including these territories more fully in regional decision-making processes.
