Water leak causes flooding and road closure in Leppävaara, Espoo

Tuesday 29th October 2024 on 09:08 in Finland

A water leak has occurred in Leppävaara, Espoo. Rummunlyöjänkatu is still partially flooded, and the intersection of Säterinpuistotie and Ruusutorpanluola is closed.

According to the West Uusimaa Rescue Department, water was gushing from the water supply network onto the streets of Leppävaara around 9 a.m. on Tuesday. The water is not hot, but earlier reports indicated a significant amount of water was involved.

By 10 a.m., the rescue department confirmed that a main water pipe had broken, resulting in flooding not only on the road but also in the parking garage of the Sellon shopping center. Emergency units have since left the scene, but the water outage is causing disruptions in water supply.

Additionally, HSL (Helsinki Regional Transport Authority) announced via its X service that two bus routes would not operate on Leppävaara Street until approximately 10:12 a.m. due to the road closure.
