Investigation launched into inappropriate relationship at Regional Psychiatric Hospital in Randers
The scandal surrounding ward C at the Regional Psychiatric Hospital in Randers is taking a new turn, as an investigation has been initiated regarding a staff member’s inappropriate relationship with a patient. This was confirmed by hospital director Tina Ebler in a written statement. The head nurse has been dismissed effective immediately. Due to the sensitive nature of personnel matters, further comments were not provided.
Ebler stated that such behavior is entirely unacceptable and contradicts the values and practices upheld by the Mental Health Services in Region Midtjylland. Ward C has been at the center of significant controversy, with serious doubts raised about a leading consultant’s treatment methods jeopardizing patient safety. The consultant was sent home in February and has since left their position.
In light of this situation, Region Midtjylland is currently reviewing 1,500 patient records to determine if the treatments administered were in compliance with standards. The dismissal of the head nurse has not stabilized the ward, as another employee is under investigation for an inappropriate relationship with a patient. Ebler reiterated that there is no connection between the head nurse’s dismissal and the ongoing investigation.
Additionally, the number of beds in ward C has been halved from 14 to 7 due to capacity issues exacerbated by numerous employee sick leaves. The situation at the Regional Psychiatric Hospital in Randers escalated after the hospital management received a whistleblower complaint in January concerning the leading consultant’s medical practices.
Reports also indicate that concerns about the consultant’s work were raised as early as 2019, with multiple inspections highlighting disagreements over the handling of dangerous patients. Recent visits from labor inspectors resulted in mandates for improvements, citing that a significant number of staff had experienced harmful interactions within the workplace.
